New organ music:
Partita on the Christmas Carol "A Virgin Unspotted"
Christmas is, for many people, the most wonderful time of the year. At its core, it is a Christian celebration commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ. Despite being the Son of God, he humbles himself and becomes human to be close to his sisters and brothers, bringing them redemption.
Over the centuries, beautiful Christmas songs have emerged, including the English Christmas Carols. In 1661, a completely new song was first printed in London. Its title is “A Virgin Unspotted,” and it tells the Christmas story.
The song is also included in an English hymn book from 1905, featuring a very joyful and lively melody. I wanted to compose a few variations in Baroque style (called partita) for the organ based on this melody. The result was completed just in time for Christmas.
