About me

Portrait photo Stefan Bodemann, Organist and composer

My mom loves to talk about how I began to cry as a little child when the organ started playing in the church. As I grew older, I discovered that this instrument is not only harmless but also extremely fascinating.

This passion has endured to this day. After a seven-year hiatus as an organist, I rediscovered the instrument during the COVID-19 pandemic, including exploring new digital possibilities to produce fantastic organ music using sample sets.

I have been playing the organ since the age of 12. Even before completing high school, I passed the church music C-exam with top grades and attended courses held by renowned organists such as Gerhard Weinberger, Jon Laukvik, and Markus Karas. For my self-study, the following authors were important (in alphabetical order): George Baker, Jeffrey Brillhart, Marcel Dupré, Peter Ewers, and Franz-Josef Stoiber.

Highlights of my professional journey include positions in Bonn, Germany, at the former Minorite church of Saint Remigius, as an assistant at the Bonn Minster, and in Cologne-Longerich. I have given concerts on many larger and smaller organs in Germany and abroad, including in Bonn (as part of the concert series “Musik am Taufstein Beethovens,” organized by the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn) and Linz, Austria, at the New Cathedral.

Today, I am part of the team of organists at Saint Elizabeth in Darmstadt and regularly take on substitute duties at the downtown church of Saint Louis.

I earned a Ph.D. (Dr. phil) in art history and have published several books on churches, airports, and on King David as a musician.
